Much as I would love to tell the story of how I first fell in love with music and all the piano lessons I took and how I’ve always dreamed of being a rock star – it ain’t true. In fact, I had never before considered following a life in music. I’ve considered a number of other endeavors such as biochemistry, theater, culinary arts, philosophy, while ultimately majoring in mathematics. However, with respect to my reverence for the culinary arts and an appreciation for philosophy, music has perhaps been the only constant in my life. It is something I have never been without, and could not imagine a life without. It has been one of the very few attachments I have made. For me, no better medium for capturing and expressing personal experience exists. Now I have taken piano lessons at various times throughout my life and have primarily studied classical works. I still do this, but for the same reasons I always used to play – none other than to hear my own interpretation of the piece. Having become a good friend of Jeff Glazier in high school, his musical influence on me cannot be understated, as we grew up listening to mainly the same music. Over the course of years, our CD racks have virtually no overlap except in the classical section. I don’t really even listen to music in the genre to which our band belongs. But somewhere between deciding on attending grad school to prepare for a life of mathematical research and pursuing a career in culinary arts I ended up here. How the hell did this happen? Who knows? All I care about is that I love the music I’m playing as deeply as I do a bottle of good red wine.
